Class News 4/25/08

We had a great week filled with lots of learning and fun!

In reading we continued reading Sarah Plain and Tall. While reading this story the students answered comprehension questions, made predictions, and sequenced events from the story. We also did a review of synonyms and antonyms. In spelling we are currently working on unit 26. The Unit 26 test will be on April 30th.

In math we are continuing our work with multiplication, division, fractions, and factors. The students played a fun game called Factor Bingo. The better they knew their multiplication facts, the better they did in the game! Don't forget to keep practicing the math facts every day!

In science we are continuing our study of environments. The students researched living and non-living things within their environments. We also learned about producers and consumers and they began investigating these as well. The plants in our terraniums are growing well. We are experimenting to see how different factors affect the plant growth. Each table group planted several seeds (pea, corn, radish, and barley)in four different soil types (dry, moist, wet, and very wet) they predicted which seed they thought would grow best in which environment. We are anxiously waiting to see if their hypothesis' were correct!

We are having a blast working on the Artful Dodgers play! We will be assigning parts on Monday and the students will need to memorize their lines by Friday. Please assist them in learning the words to the songs. If you have not turned in your order form for tickets to the baseball game, please send it in on Monday.

We will be going on our Tucson Symphony Orchestra field trip on Wednesday. We have arranged to have a forma, sit down lunch at the Arizona Inn following the concert. This is a wonderful treat and will be free to the students! We used Tax Credit money to pay for the concert and Nature Shop proceeds to pay for the lunch! If you signed up to attend the trip as a chaperone, you will need to pay $10.00 for the concert and lunch. Please let me know either by email or through the blog if you are planning to attend!

Have a great weekend. Don't forget to have your child post on the blog for 10 extra credit points!
