The first two days of school were a huge success!
On Thursday, which was the first day of school, we had lots of fun. We started off the morning taking a tour of the school. We found the restrooms, the teachers lounge, the office, the nurse, the police officers office, the music room, the lunch room, the P.E. room, the art room, the playground, where to line up AND our own classroom. When we finished the school tour, we took a tour around our own classroom.
Then, it was time for our first visit with Mrs. Marcy, the music teacher. We had a great time with her.
When we got back from music it was time to do a little writing! The class learned a little about their new teacher, Mrs. Sheber. I told the class all about me and my family. After learning about me, everyone in class wrote a letter to me so I could learn about all the students in our class. We even used the correct format for letter writing, heading, greeting, body, closing, signature. Finally, after a very busy morning, it was time for lunch and lunch recess.
After lunch, we read the first story in our our reading books. We played a fun word game called RIVET and then read a story called Miss Nelson is Missing. As we read this story we talked about how the students in the story were behaving and how we should not act like them. At the end of the day we learned how to fill outour assignment books and got our first bit of homework! . It was a great day!!!

Our second day of school was filled with lots of learning.
We started the day off learning more about Mrs. Sheber by reading a short autobiography about her and answering some comprehension questions about it. Then we learned what makes each member of our class special. We wrote a sentence about what makes each of us special and drew a picture of ourselves.
After a little bit of morning work, the students got to meet Mrs. Paulson the PE teacher.
In math today we used our homework from last night to make a math project. The homework required us to find numbers that describe ourselves. We then took the information and made a math number quilt. Mrs. Sheber is going to make this into a class book so we can enjoy it for the whole year!
We began our science unit today. For the next few weeks we will be learning about plants. The activity we did today required the students to:-estimate how many seeds were in a cup.-sort the seeds into types-count the seeds-add together all the individual seed counts to find the total number of seeds-describe the properties of the seeds (color and shape)-estimate how many seeds would be needed to make a 6 inch line-line the seed up to make a 6 inch line-estimate how many seeds would weigh the same amount as a little bear-use a balance scale to weigh the seeds and the bear
This was a fun project that required the students to work in groups of 4 to 6 kids.
If you on the left side of the my bolg, you will see a spot that says "QUESTIONS??".
To earn five Sheber Shillings next week at school, click on the work comments right below this blog and answer one of the questions from the blue section.
See you all Monday!!

My favorite part of the first two days of 3rd grade was meeting everybody and see Painted Sky again.

What goes at the top of a letter before the "Dear" part. THE DATE.

Tell me three things that you learned about me ... your teacher!
Your name is Mrs. Sheber, you like frogs and you have two kids.

Who is Miss Swamp? Miss Viola Swamp is the mean substitue teacher in the book Miss Nelson is missing.

Tell one of your parents about the seed sort. What did you do? I sorted the sunflower seeds and the corn seeds. We counted them and added them together and guessed how many there were. I was the closest!

What comes before Dear in a letter the Date

Three things I learned about Mrs.Sheber are... 1. Her dad was in the Air Force. 2.She knew she wanted to be a teacher since she was 7. 3. She loves her family more than anything in the world.

My favorite part of the first two days of 3rd grade was Math. Three things about Ms. Sheber: She likes hiking and she likes riding a motorcycle with her husband and she likes riding a bicycle too. The date comes before the "dear" part in a letter. About the sorting... we sorted lots of kinds of seeds (lima beans, kidney beans, etc), then we added all the seeds together and weighed them. They weighed more than the teddy bear. Ms. Swamp is a mean substitute teacher in the book, Ms. Nelson is Missing. See you soon.

Do you like the book HOOT or have you never read it? I like it very much. I read it in one day last week. It took about two hours. But that was on Monday.(before we had our first day) I wish I had read it yesterday though. Then I could put it on my reading calender. You know what I don't like about books? The last page. It is alaways so sad because it is the end of the book. It alaways make me teary becuase I LOVE books! Every book I read is concitered a good book in my head.

Mrs. Sheber,
Amanda says her two favorite things were meeting a new friend on the bus and all the frog decorations in the room.
The date goes before dear.
The three things she learned about you was; you love gymnastics, you like to read to become a better teacher and when you retire you and your husband will travel the world.
Miss Swamp is actually Miss Nelson because she wanted the kids to behave.

Jessica, my favorite thing about the first two days was meeting all of my awesome students!

Della, You are totally correct about Miss Swamp! We missed you today!

Lorelei,
I do love the book Hoot! I love reading too. Sometimes Iam often sad when the book is over. This summer I read a book called My Sister's Keeper and I couldn't put it down. When I was finished, I wanted to read it again!

Amanda,
Great job answering the questions! I am glad that you told your dad all of the answers! That way he knows what is going on in our classroom!
