Welcome back! We had a great week filled with lots of new learning!
We began practicing cursive writing every morning. This has proven to be quite a challenge for some of us! We will continue to practice it every day and I am sure that it will get easier!
We began a new behavior sheet this week. We have been focusing on Character Counts as a school, so the new behavior sheet reflect how the students think they did each day in the areas of Character Counts! It has been meaning for the students to reflect on areas that they showed character as well as areas in which they need to improve. Please sign and return the sheet on Monday.
Students began bringing home their Read 4 Today for homework. We have been going over it in class each morning.
In reading we began a unit on geology. We learned about the three types of rocks and how each one was formed. We sang songs to work on reading fluency. We also read informational text to learn about man-made structures that have been built from rocks!
Spelling lists came home on Wednesday. The test will be January 14th. We also learned about homophones.
During writing this week, we practiced writing topic sentences. We worked with our partners and table groups to write topic sentences for a list of details. Today, we wrote a paragraph that contained a topic sentence.
In unit study we did a fun experiment on "Mock Rocks". The students were able to pretend that they were geologists and "pick" apart the rocks. They found that the mock rock, just like real rocks was made of many different minerals. We are in the process of trying to identify all of the minerals in our mock rocks!
Students are bringing home a Rock Scavenger Hunt assignment today. Have fun looking for rocks!
Report cards are also coming home today!
