Wow! This was a busy week!
We practiced and practiced and performed or class play! The kids did a wonderful job on the play, I am so proud of them. The Sidewinders game was a blast!
In reading we began reading a some fun Gerinimo Stilton adventures. Each environment group is reading about an adventure that takes place within the environment they are studying. The groups are having fun reading, writing, and drawing about the adventure that Gerinimo is going on!
In math we learned another way to multiply. Earlier in the unit we learned partial products multiplication, and this week we added lattice multiplication to our list of ways to multiply! Learning different methods of multiplication helps students find a way that they understand the best! We also worked on parts of a whole!
In science, we are continuing our environment study! I am still in need of help for painting on Wednesday!
Keep practicing those math facts!
Have a great weekend! See you all at the Spring Fling!!!!

Class News - May 3, 2008
We have had a very busy week.
We started the week off with more recorder song pass offs in music. Many of the students are doing well but they all need to practice more so they can earn all their belts by the end of the year. Also, they will have a recorder concert on May 19th at 9:40 so they need to be ready for that.
Wednesday was a great day. The symphony was so much fun. They played some of my favorite songs. They played a really happy song, a sad song (Jupiter from The Planets), a scary song, a heroic song (Star Wars), and a silly song (Mambo from West Side Story). The conductor taught the kids about dynamics, tempo, and orchestration. Our students were the best audience. They remembered not to clap until the conductors hands dropped to his side. Lunch was also a highlight. We walked over to the Hotel Arizona to eat. They served us hot dogs, macaroni nuggets, watermelon, AND ice cream sundaes with chocolate syrup and sprinkles. They gave us a great deal and were so nice to all the kids. Thank you to Gail, Valerie, Kevin, Chef Todd and all the servers for taking such great care of us.
In reading this week we worked on our Artful Dodgers play. Students practiced their fluency skills during the songs. They also practiced using lots of expression in their lines AND in their facial expressions and reactions to the other actors. Everyone is very excited to perform the play next week.
In science we continued working on our environments projects. Student researched more consumers, producers and decomposers. They looked for adaptations that these producers and consumers had to have in order to live in their environment. Our water experiment plants are growing well. It seems that the dry soil has no plants in it and the very wet plants are growing... very well.
In math, we are continuing our practice with multiplicationa and division.
Now time for extra credit... Students, post a comment to this blog answering one of the questions to the side and telling me what you voted for in the poll AND why and you will get a prize from the prize basket.
Have a wonderful weekend. I am looking forward to Wednesday and the baseball game.
